mcshutupJun. 24th, 2004 03:38 am Alternative chick flicks

Hey, poetmcchick asked me about Lost and Delirious. I apologise for taking a week to get back to you.

It's a lesbian fable about the intensity of young love and the thin line between fantasy and reality. It's a little fanciful, but any movie with such love for Shakespeare is cool with me.

I don't know if you've seen But I'm a Cheerleader, another gay girl film, but they're almost like comic and tragic counterparts (with Cheerleader being the comedy).

Also, a film which involves bisexuality (so to speak), but a lot of other powerful ideas is Heavenly Creatures. It's a difficult and overwhelmingly sad film, but poewrfully imaginative and consciously cinematic. Ummm, not a date movie, but I really like it.

Well, I hope you like some of these, and I'll try to post in here a little more.

mcshutupJun. 17th, 2004 03:25 am My thoughts on the movie "Saved!"

Saved was allright. It reminded me of the comedies John Hughes used to write in the eighties (Some Kind of Wonderful, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Sixteen candles), before he became completely embarassing. It’s patience and kind heart put it ahead of hormonal messes like Mean Girls. Also, the acting is above average for this type of venture. The characters have earnest and occasionally believable motivations, which supercede the chase for gags, or even the movie’s blunt satire.

I’ve heard that people who went to catholic schools related to a lot of this, so I hope they were given an outlet. In so much as the film is merciless to the audacious, glib hollowness of Christian youth, it’s a unique experiment. However, it’s inevitable “revelation” that the substitute is romantic love and hopeful acceptance proves there is little ideology to it’s message. Yes, we should all be nice to each other. I doubt it will result in the meek stealing the Earth from the ambitious (who are all aparrently close minded and headed for nervous breakdowns) and democratically dividing it up.

If you’re going to make a satire, the ostensible proof of it’s honesty is the willingness to show a political motive. In spite of it’s moral socialism and religious agnosticness (not a whole lot more furious about the crimes of monotheism than the confusion that was Dogma), this film really just wants to give you a nice feeling for your dollars. In that way, it’s utterly equal to, and consequently approving of, contemporary political canidates.

Vote Malone/Culkin, 2004.

Add to a cocktail shaker and mix vigorously. Serve with a slice of lovability and a pinch of salt. Yum!

poetmcchickJun. 14th, 2004 12:38 am Feelings

I tremble at your touch.
I long for your gentle kisses.
They are like a bird.
I feel so empty inside.
I cry and try to get help.
It's not working.
My heart longs to hold you.
I want to know you'r mine.
I'm gonna cut.
I wanna die!
I wanna get away from here!
I want to be with you.
I want you to be mine.
We'll figure out the children part.
I can't stand this!
My head's making things up again!
I know we'll be happy together.
I'll learn some about cars,
but he will come in the way.
I wanna die!
BPD is controlling me!
I love him,
I think I do.
I like you a lot too.
I'm like Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath,
depressed poets.
I want to stick my head in an oven.
I know you know what I like,
because it's the same thing you like.
But I like guys more. Even more than you.
Cut, slice, saw!
Help me!
I want to be with him,
but he wants to be with her.
But I love him more than she's capable of.
She's 6 years younger than him.
She's nice and all, but he's mine.
I guess I'll have to kill her.
I'M GOING TO DIE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
